Narayan Jagadisan of Tamil Nadu especially entered the record books of Indian cricket on Monday after performing a supernatural feat with bat in hand. In the Vijay Hazare Trophy match against Arunachal Pradesh at Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, the 26-year-old smashed 15 sixes and 25 boundaries to score a record 277 runs in just 141 deliveries. This massive single hit broke a bunch of records. As it was his fifth successive toss in the ongoing home tournament, he is now the first batsman in history to reach the milestone.

Jagdeesan is a well known name in the Tamil Nadu cricket circuit. He was a part of Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) but didn’t really hit the limelight ahead of his heroic matches against Arunachal on Monday.

The right-handed batsman started his journey as a professional cricketer almost 6 years ago, making his debut in the 2016-17 Ranji Trophy against Madhya Pradesh. Batting at No. 7, Jagadeesan scored 123 with the help of 2 sixes and 8 boundaries in the first innings. His fine batting helped Tamil Nadu post 555/7 despite a poor start. The match ended in a draw but Jagadesan was awarded man of the match.

The following year, in January 2017, Jagadeesan played his first T20 match for his state in the T20 Interstate tournament against Hyderabad. It was not the best of starts as he scored only 18 in chasing 166. Tamil Nadu totaled for 93, losing the match by 72 runs.

Almost a month later, he found himself in the squad for Vijay Hazare Trophy 2017 and made his debut against Uttar Pradesh. Again the start was not up to the mark but his team still managed to win the match by seven wickets.

To date, Jagadeesan has played 26 first-class matches, 41 List A matches, 51 T20s and scored over 1,000 runs in each format. He has 1,261 runs in first-class matches, 1,782, and 1,064 runs in Lista A and T20 games, respectively.

In the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy season, Jagadeesan is the leading run scorer with 624 runs in six matches at an average of 156.00. His fifth consecutive century in the tournament helped him set the record hundreds in men’s ‘A’ cricket.

He broke the record of former Sri Lanka captain Kumara Sangakkara (4 tons in 2015). Globalism Cup), former South African batsman Alviro Petersen (4tn in the 2015-16 Momentum One-Day Cup) and Indian batsman Devdut Padikal (4tn in the 2020-21 Vijay Hazare Cup).
