Ben Stokes and Sam Curran starred with racket and ball respectively to help England win the 2022 T20 race Globalism Cup with 5-wicket win over Pakistan in Melbourne final cricket Earth on Sunday.
Six years after grieving Stokes in the 2016 final in Kolkata when Carlos Brathwaite beat him for four straight six years in the final, Stokes finally found redemption as he remained to the finish with 52 unbeaten to claim England’s second T20 World Cup title. The win also made England the first ever team in men’s international cricket to win two World Cup titles at the same time, with Stokes playing a pivotal role in the final win of the 2019 FIFA World Cup on home soil.

On a post-match show, Stokes credited Curran for the win.
“In the finals especially on the chase.. I may have forgotten all the hard work before that, how Adil Rashid and Sam Curran throw us the match. It was a tricky haul that you never really felt, so to limit them to 130 should be credited with a lot of,” Stokes said. Thanks to the bowlers.”
Curran, who returned from injury earlier this year, was the England footballer in the competition and proved it on the big stage with impressive numbers 4-0-12-3.
On the post-match show, Curran said the MVP award should be given to Stokes and not to him.
“I don’t think I should get this, I think the way Ben Stokes played there, to get 50 in the final and he does it a few times for us, he should get that,” Curran said.
“Incredibly special (to be Stokes). He’s someone I look up to and he’s always there when the team needs him, people question him but there’s no questioning of him, he’s the guy.”
Sam Curran, who collected 10 wickets, was also named “World Cup Player of the Year”, becoming the first dedicated thrower to win the award.
“We’re going to enjoy the occasion and it’s very special. Big square boundary, so I knew a wicket-type bowling would work and try to get it to the wicket square. We felt the wicket wasn’t as good as we thought it would be. It was nibbling everywhere and it was a challenge to chase it.
