Bhuvneshwar Kumar is about to date programming in the second T20I against New Zealand

Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been a trusted asset to the Indian team. The pacer now has a chance to write his name in the history books. Bhuvneshwar needs only four wickets to become the bowler with the most wickets in T20 internationals in a calendar year. This is a feat that can be achieved in the ongoing series against New Zealand. The UP native has taken away 36 wickets in 30 matches across all competitions in 2022.

At present, the record for the most wickets taken in a calendar year is with Joshua Little of Ireland. The Irish pacer has taken 39 wickets from 26 matches in 2022 with an economy of 7.58.

Bhuvneshwar will be keen to leave his T20 World Cup performance behind. The 32-year-old managed to take just four wickets from six matches in the tournament. He had a forgettable semi-final outing with the rest of the Indian bowlers failing to take a single wicket against England.

Leading the Indian pace attack against New Zealand, Kumar is hoping to regain some tempo and make the most of the circumstances.

The Indian side badly missed Jaspreet Bumrah in several tough moments during the T20 World Cup. While Kumar was one of the most economical bowlers in the T20 World Cup, he struggled to get momentum in his favor during dead overs.

Kumar is one of the few experienced players alongside Hardik Pandya who will be included in the squad to face the New Zealanders. Along with him and Arshdeep, Imran Malik was given a chance to star in the series.

With several senior players, including captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, rested for the series, the selectors fielded several youngsters in the squad. Hardik Pandya will captain the team in the T20I series, while Shikhar Dhawan will take over the captaincy duties for the 50-over formula.

The first of a three-match T20I series was washed out by rain in Wellington on Friday. All eyes are now on the second T20I scheduled to be played at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui on Sunday, 20 November.
