Brazil returned to regain its throne with the entry of Qatar Globalism Cup as favorites with Neymar Jr likely to play his last major FIFA event. They looked like the most balanced team in the tournament with excellent depth in the squad. It has been more than two decades since Brazil last won the FIFA World Cup. The Ronaldo R9 inspired the legendary Brazilian team to glory in the 2002 World Cup which had the likes of Ronaldinho, Kaka, Rivaldo and Cafu to name a few. This was the fifth World Cup title for the South American giants.

After that, Brazil did not live up to its reputation in the following mega events. 2014 was the closest they had a chance to win the title again but Neymar’s injury took all of the momentum away from them. In the semi-finals, they suffered a heartbreaking 7-1 defeat to Germany in front of their own fans.

In 2016, Tite took charge of the Brazilian soccer team after Dunga was sacked from the position after a poor showing in the Copa América.

Tite revamped the team and built the squad around Neymar to start the renewal process. The likes of Philippe Coutinho and Casemiro started to give some hope to Tate and Neymar to produce something special but the 2018 World Cup was a no-brainer for them when they were knocked out by Belgium in the quarter-finals. It was a tournament to forget for Neymar, especially one who stole the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. He has taken dives on several occasions which has led to many fans turning against him.

2019 turned out to be a crucial year for Brazil as they won the Copa America to end their long drought. The South American giants have set out to find young talents who are heirs to the samba style of football. However, they lost the Copa América final to their rivals Argentina in 2021. It was an exciting match as Ángel Di Maria scored the only goal to end Argentina’s 28-year wait for a major trophy.

After the defeat in the Copa America, the Brazilian national team did not let go and qualified for the World Cup by leading the South American qualifiers.

Looking at their team, Seleção Canarinha has two of the best goalkeepers in the world – Alisson and Ederson. Both are world-class players but Brazil have picked the Liverpool player in the past and they could stick with him for the World Cup unless injury forces them to use Ederson, of whom he was a part.

Defense might be the one area where there are some concerns for them in the lineup. They have an aging Thiago Silva who is still very strong in defence, but he has struggled tracking down his defence. Marquinhos has been a pivotal part of this squad the past few years but given some of his performances in big matches at club level he has sometimes crumbled easily under pressure. Eder Militao is another good option for Tite in central defence. While Danilo is one player who has done anything major in club football, when it comes to the national team he seems to be a completely different player. Dani Alves is one of the experienced players in the defensive department who will keep morale high in the camp.

Brazil may play with two midfielders in formations as Casemiro and Fred possess attributes that add value to both defense and attack. The duo is the backbone of the team and will be crucial for Tite to do well on the big stage.

The South American giants have the best strikers in the world with the likes of Anthony, Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli, Neymar Jr, Rafinha, Richarlison, Rodrygo and Vinicius Jr. All attackers have the Brazilian flair and can bring back the glory. They have a lot of problems in the attacking department because only Neymar has started among them undisputedly.

Their depth in their attacking department will help them in crucial matches where players like Rodrygo have done very well as a substitute in club football. Rafinha is expected to start on the right wing as he is known for his perfect crosses for the striker, while Richarlison will be the first man in the attacking line-up. Real Madrid’s rising star – Vinicius is expected to run the show from the left flank.

While Neymar will have the free role in the team because he must be a creative force in the squad. He will have the task of finding the back of the net himself as a striker and making moves for others to get the same results as the playmaker at the same time.

The PSG star has already indicated that the next World Cup could be his last and he will do everything he can to get his hands on the glorious trophy.
