After suffering a crushing defeat by 10 wickets against England in the T20 semi-final Globalism cup, team India She is set to return again in the three-match T20I series against New Zealand starting on Friday. The Men in Blue will be missing several big stars including Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul as it is time for India to start the process of revamping with some young players. Hardik Pandya will lead the team in Rohit’s absence.

The series against New Zealand could raise players who could become vital in ending India’s title wait in the shortest fashion since winning the inaugural tournament in 2007.

India will use a new opening pair against New Zealand with Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan expected to open the innings. Shubman scored consistently well on the domestic circuit and also slapped a century in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. While Kishan was in the mix last year but failed to secure a spot in the T20 World Cup. It would be important for him to consolidate his position in the number one ranking.

Shreyas Iyer and Deepak Hooda will battle it out for the third spot in the line-up. Whereas ICC No. 1 Suryakumar Yadav will be the undisputed starter and bat at No. 4. It will be interesting to see between Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson who will get a nod in the XI. There may be a chance that India will play both, but for that, they would have to use Hardik as their fifth bowler.

Yuzvendra Chahal, who was not included in the T20 squad for the T20 World Cup matches, is expected to start against New Zealand. While Washington Sundar may partner with him to add more depth to the hitting lineup. Kuldeep Yadav is another option in the spin department.

India has named five Pacers players in the 16-strong squad and it will be the task of VVS Laxman and Hardik Pandya to battle the right choices. Imran Malik could return to the Indian squad looking to the future, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar could get an extended rope in the starting line-up.

India T20I Squad: Hardik Pandya (centre), Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, Deepak Hooda, Washington Sundar, Rishabh Pant, Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldip Yadav, Harshal Patel, Mohammad Siraj, Bhuvneshwar Singh Kumar, Umrandeep.
