Portugal broke into the FIFA Round of 16 Globalism 2022 Cup after beating Uruguay 2-0 on Tuesday. Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes scored a brace in the match to take his side to the next stage, but it was star striker Cristiano Ronaldo who once again grabbed the limelight but unfortunately for all the wrong reasons.

The incident occurred in the 54th minute of the match when Bruno sent a cross into the penalty area from the left. The ball found Ronaldo when he jumped the Ballon d’Or five times high to send it into the net. The ball did indeed go into the net and Ronaldo seemed convinced it was his goal but unfortunately the replay wasn’t clear enough. Even so, that didn’t stop him from celebrating.

The referee even confirmed that the former Real Madrid striker scored the net. Ronaldo’s joyful celebration was short-lived as the giant screen displayed his former Manchester United teammate – Bruno’s name, as the scorer. The decision, unsurprisingly, baffled Ronaldo but the 37-year-old tried to mock him after seeing Bruno’s name on the giant screen.

Portugal eventually managed to secure a comfortable victory in the match but Ronaldo failed to write a historic feat. Ronaldo is currently just one goal away from tying former Portuguese striker Eusebio as the best scorer in FIFA World Cup history. Overall, Ronaldo has so far scored eight goals in FIFA World Cup finals.
