ISLAMABAD: Haris Rauf’s desperate wait for a Test debut could continue if the host nation (Pakistan) follows a policy of setting up low, slow spin runs against the touring England team during the three-match Test series starting with the inaugural Test at Pindi Stadium from December 1.

A guard announced during his recent media interaction here at a local hotel that he is ready to take a test for the first time that he has been waiting for for the past two years.

“So far it has all been about limited overs cricket. Playing T20I and One-Day cricket regularly for the country is all I have done so far. I am glad I have justified my selection by the performances I have made in limited overs cricket. Although I have been part of the Test teams Recently, I still have to flex my muscles in the longer version.”

When “The News” asked if he was looking forward to getting a trial hat during the upcoming series, especially in the absence of Shaheen Shah Afridi, he said that it was all up to the team’s management and captain Babar Azam.

“I’m not sure if I’ll make a Test debut or not. It all depends on the team management as to who they want to play. As far as my preparations are concerned, I’m ready in all definitions of the game to play Test cricket. I’ve proven my worth in one-day and T20 cricket.” I look forward to making his Test debut now,” the 29-year-old Paiser from Hazara told the media.

In 57 T20 ODIs since his international debut two years ago, Harris has picked 72 wickets while in 15 ODIs, he has managed to take 29 wickets.

Pindi Stadium’s path is renowned for its lively pace but early indications are that Pakistan may opt for a slow, low-spinning path to counter the attacking tendency of the England batting line-up.

“Although it is too early to predict the nature of Pindi Stadium, there is a possibility that the slow, low spinning track is ready for the inaugural test,” said the curator, upon approaching it.

Haris’ chances of making a debut for the country may dwindle if the low, slow pitch at Pindi Stadium is the final choice for local council.

Pakistan’s first-class bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi was out with an injury. In his absence, Nasim Shah would lead the attack. In the case of low and slow wickets, Pakistan are likely to bowl with Faheem Ashraf, the second tailor, ahead of the bouncer. Wrist insulators Abrar Ahmed, Muhammad Nawaz and Noman Ali can be chosen as spinners. England can be seen handing teenager Rehan a Test cap should the host nation decide to opt for the spinning track at the Bindy Stadium.
