Here’s Why The AMA Canceled Michael Jackson’s Tribute To Chris Brown

The American Music Award Production Company has broken its silence about the drama surrounding Chris Brown’s performance that was scheduled to take place during the ceremony on Sunday night, November 20, 2022.

On Monday, November 21, 2022, in a statement to entertainment tonight, A DCP spokesperson clarified that the tribute being pulled was a matter of creative direction rather than a fault on Brown’s part.

“Live shows change all the time, it’s the nature of this business; unfortunately, this element of the AMAs was never put together because we couldn’t fit into the performance, through no fault of Chris Brown,” the statement read.

On Saturday, November 19, 2022, Brown took to Instagram and posted a video from rehearsals that showed the singer performing a long routine, which was meant to be a tribute to the legendary King of Pop, Michael Jackson. Brown wrote on IG that his group was canceled by the organizers, claiming “They canceled me for unknown reasons.”

On Monday, Ciara got into the conversation and shared a video that showed her in the same rehearsal space as Brown performing an impressive choreography for excitementwith the result that she was also slated to perform the tribute.

The party went on without honoring MJ on Sunday night, while Chris Brown didn’t exactly show up. Even though he didn’t show up, the Forever singer won the “Favorite R&B Artist” category against Brent Faiyaz, Giveon, Lucky Daye, and The Weeknd.

However, Brown’s victory at the awards ceremony drew boos rather than applause. Kelly Rowland, announcing the category winner, accepted the award on his behalf and silenced the crowd in defense of the singer.

“Chris Brown is not here tonight, so I’m accepting this award on his behalf,” Rowland said, before responding to some indistinct boos and gasps from the audience.

“Excuse me, calm down,” she continued. “But I want to tell Chris, thank you so much for making great music, and I want to say thank you to him for being such an amazing performer. I’m going to take this award and present it to you, I love you! Congratulations and congratulations to all the nominees in this category.” Indistinct shouts followed from the crowd.
