After the second ODI in Hamilton was washed out by rain, 3Research and development The final ODI will be played on Wednesday with the decider as New Zealand lead the group 1-0. It’s a must-win game for the Men in Blue, and ex-opening Waseem Jaffar has seen them devise an effective plan to contain Tom Latham.
India were well off while defending 307 in the first ODI as they reduced the host to 88 for 3 overs in their 20 overs. But then Latham burst onto the scene. He teamed up with captain Kane Williamson and the pair stitched together an unbeaten 221-run stand to stun the visitors. Latham scored 145 not out from just 104 deliveries and was awarded man of the match for his heroics.
In a conversation with ESPN Cricinfo, Jaffer opined that Latham would be a huge threat India And that his share will be a priority.
“Tom Latham is a big threat for the Indian side, because of the way he operates in the middle against spinning through counter-attacks. His wicket will be India’s priority. Williamson is another important player, but India will focus on their strengths,” said Jaffar.
“India will have to look to get off to a better start in the third ODI and try to come up with a better plan against Latham. No matter the outcome, we want to see good cricket. Indian fans must go through a lot of trouble watching the match. There are still expectations It’s going to rain a lot, but I hope the rain stays away.”
In response to a question about any possible change in the starting lineup, Jaafar said that the team will not make any changes in the third and final match in Hamilton.
“We all wish Sanju would play Samson. He was left out of the second ODI to make way for his sixth bowling option. But if you’re looking in terms of batting, you’ll always prefer having Sanju in the line-up. But Hooda can bowl 5-6 overs for you and can be useful.” If any normal player has a day off, that makes sense. Also, hoda we have to do anything in the series. So, in all likelihood, we’ll see the same team. Because if changes are made, the question would be why there are mods in the second game. .
“I would like to say again that I wanted to see Kuldeep Yadav play. Since that did not happen, I don’t think there will be any changes,” Jafar said.
