Archer has been out of action since the five-match T20I series in the United States India in March 2021 and went under the knife three times; First on his hand to remove a shard of glass, and two on his irritating right elbow. On Wednesday, Archer bowled nine runs in two overs in England versus the England Lions warm-up match at Tolerance Oval in Abu Dhabi. Right-arm Zach Crowley hit the helmet with a sharp bouncer the first time.
“I’m very happy to be back and this is a big year, we just won the T20, we’ve got an over-50 and I hope I get a chance to help defend the title. (The Over-50 World Cup) is the goal,” Archer was quoted by Sky Sports as saying. .
For now, Archer is delighted to be back in the England national team and feels he needs to work a little harder to be fully fit.
“Back here in Abu Dhabi, in and around the guys, it’s kind of warm, it makes you feel at home again, seeing all the familiar faces, seeing all the boys again.
“I still don’t think I’m at 100 percent yet; I still need a little more work to get the body back in shape and firing. But in the short term, just staying fit is the most important thing.”
Archer admitted he felt some soreness afterwards after bowling nine overs in the training match, largely due to his return after so much time on the sidelines.
“This morning, I kind of felt like I was hit by a bus, but that feels good. I was glad I ran out, especially with the boys. It’s almost like coming back to play with them. There are some limitations…. The coach and doctor said I could use my discretion with how much I wanted to run. I think I did enough to run out the first time.”
