Karnataka beat Jharkhand by five wickets while Uttar Pradesh recorded an eight-wicket victory over Mumbai in the semi-finals of the Vijay Hazare Trophy in Narendra Modi Stadium A and B are here on Saturday.
With the semi-final round over on Saturday, Karnataka will now face Punjab in their first quarter-final match while Uttar Pradesh will face Maharashtra in the second of their last eight matches on Monday.
Electing to field first, Karnataka Packers Ronit Moore (3/31) and Vidwath Kaverappa (3/20) dismiss Jharkhand openers Utkarsh Singh and Arnav Sinha for ducks in their first two overs. The side made further forays by bringing out Shahbaz Nadeem, skipper Virat Singh and Saurabh Tiwari in quick succession to leave Jharkhand at 40/5 in 13.3 overs.

It took 115 runs, from 155 deliveries, between Anukol Roy (57) and wicket-keeper Kumar Koshagra (74) for the sixth wicket to get Jharkhand back on track. But the situation ended when Koshagra was dismissed for 74 off 80 balls by Venkatesh M (3-51) – the well-timed strike included a forty-eighth and two sixes.
Roy went on to hit 57 off 97 balls, including four boundaries but didn’t get much support from the other end as Karnataka batted regularly to dismiss Jharkhand for 187 balls in 47.1 overs.
In reply, Karnataka skipper Mayank Agarwal fell early in the chase, sacked by Bal Krishna for 12.
But R. Samarth (53 off 60 balls) joined forces with the in-form Nikken Jose to sew in 64 off 72 balls for the second wicket before Rahul Shukla dismissed the first. Although Manish Pandey, Shreyas Gopal and PR Sharath fell quickly, Nikken Jose stood tall to lose 63 off his 93 balls, hitting five overs to chase 188 off his 40.5, with MS Bhandage not out for 18.
In the other match, things were going their way from the start for Uttar Pradesh. Divyaansh Saxena was bowled for a duck by Ankit Rajpoot on the third ball of the innings while Shivam Mavi bowled Prithvi Shaw in the fourth over. Captain Ajinkia Rahani (26) and Armaan Jaffer (32) added a valuable standoff of 52 runs off 66 balls for the third wicket.
But Uttar Pradesh bounced back as Rahane was caught by wicket-keeper Aaryan Goyal off Tyagi at the end of the 15th over, followed by Shivam Sharma and Shiva Singh taking out Sufid Parkar and Jaffar in quick succession to leave Mumbai at 94/5 in 21.4 overs.
Shams Mulani, a left-arm all-rounder, hit 51 off 70 balls while Hardik Tamuri scored 67 in time and 53 in the face of a vital 103 runs off 127 balls. But Shiva broke the partnership by taking out Tamur and eventually Mumbai were all out for 220 in 48.3 overs, with Mavi taking 4-41 while Shiva and Karthik had two wickets each.
In reply, Juyal (82 off 103 balls) and Madhav Kaushik (46 off 75 balls) put together a platform to chase with a superb stand of 119 runs off 152 balls, before Divyaansh cut it short by getting the latter out. Goyal was dismissed by Mohit Avasthi in the 34th minute, giving Mumbai a small glimmer of hope to get back into the game.

But Priyam Garg and captain Karan Sharma put together an unbeaten 63-run 70-ball standoff for the third wicket to take Uttar Pradesh over the line in 45.4 overs. While Garg was unbeaten on 39 off 58 deliveries, Sharma unbeaten 42 off 38 balls to complete a comprehensive win for Uttar Pradesh.
