Argentina captain Lionel Messi and Poland captain Robert Lewandowski were seen sharing a friendly moment as they whispered into each other’s ears after the end of the match on Wednesday. The gesture caught everyone’s attention as the duo shared an uncomfortable moment during the match.

Messi’s team emerged victorious 2-0 after a tough battle against Poland. Alexis McAllister and Julian Alvarez made sure to fix Messi’s missed penalty and then cement the team’s place in the Round of 16.

The match between Argentina and Poland at Stade 974 intensified as the tension and desperation were quite evident on both sides.

In the first 45 minutes of the match, Argentina struggled badly but could not find a way past Wojciech Szczesny as the Poland goalkeeper saved his second penalty of the tournament. Szczesny fouled Messi while reaching for a cross, but then came back as he dived in to his left to beat the resulting penalty. It was the 31st penalty kick missed by Messi in his career.

However, Argentina breathed a sigh of relief with an Alexis McAllister goal in the 46th minute, before Julian Alvarez doubled their lead just 20 minutes later.

As the match ended, Messi and Lewandowski were seen exchanging words amicably. Although friendly conversations between the players of the two teams are very common in football, the duo’s gesture towards each other attracted attention because everything was not friendly between the two teams just before the final whistle.

Messi was seen upset with Lewandowski after he won a foul after heavy physical pressure from the latter. According to the replay, it’s quite clear that Messi was in no mood to indulge in a ruckus or even smooth things over. The Argentina star was seen ignoring the Big Five who was pushed by Lewandowski after the tense incident.

However, it all ended on a good note as the two players greeted each other with hugs and exchanged a few words with each other.

After a 2-0 win over Poland, Argentina now entered the round of 16 as group winners with six points and would later meet Australia, who finished second in Group D.

On the other hand, Poland’s loss against Argentina cost them a lot as the four points they got from the clashes with Saudi Arabia and Mexico took them to the next stage of the tournament.
