Former left-arm player Maninder Singh and opener Shiv Sundar Das were the two top names who applied for the senior national selectors positions with experience of playing more than 20 Tests for India.
It cannot be confirmed whether former player Ajit Agarkar has applied or not. According to many, Agarkar has a sure chance of becoming the selection committee chairman with his international credentials, should he decide to apply.

Salil Ankola, the current boss of the Mumbai senior team, former goalkeeper Samir Dighi and in-form goalkeeper Vinod Kambli are said to have applied from Mumbai.
With the application deadline for the new commission closing at 6pm on Monday, it is understood that more than 50 people have applied but there are not many heavyweights in the fray.
Of the confirmed applicants, no one has taken more exams than Maninder (35 exams) while Das (21 exams) is second on that list.

But it was not confirmed whether Das’ home state of Odisha would support his candidacy.
Last time around, Agarkar, despite being the favourite, didn’t get the job because the former MCA system didn’t support him because the officials wanted Abey Kuruvilla.
Other names from Northern District are former lightweight cricketers.
From the northern region, except Maninder, Atul Wasan, Nikhil Chopra (Delhi), Ajay Ratra (Haryana) and Ritender Singh Sodhi (Punjab) are ex India Players who have thrown their hat into the ring.
From the eastern region, except for Das, the other names are really lightweight. Among them are Prabhanjan Mulik, Rashmi Ranjan Parida of Odisha, Subhamoy Das, Saradindu Mukherjee and Surashish Lahiri of Bengal.

From the central region, Amay Khurasiya from Madhya Pradesh and Gyanendra Pandey from Uttar Pradesh are believed to have applied.

Although there are no written rules, the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) usually believes in an equal distribution agreement, thus the five juniors and five seniors selected recently were from 10 different states.
Therefore, the junior selection committee has one from Tamil Nadu (S Sharath), Bengal (Ranadeb Bose), MP (Harvinder Sodhi), Punjab (Krishan Mohan) and Gujarat (Pathik Patel).
Hence, candidates from these five states are expected to be disqualified.
From Tamil Nadu, notable names like L Sivaramakrishnan and WV Raman did not apply.
However, Kanwaljeet Singh, the former member from Hyderabad, applied for the post as candidate for the Southern District.
