The T20 squad in India will undergo a major transfer over the next 24 months because big players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli On Thursday, Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry sources said the restrictions on Ravichandran Ashwin will be eased gradually.
While Ashwin and Dinesh Karthik appear to have played their last matches with the shortest formula, BCCI will leave it up to Kohli and Rohit to decide on the future of T20I.

After the team’s shameful defeat in the T20 World Cup semi-finals, Rohit was visibly upset by coach Rahul Dravid, who addressed the media after the match.
The next T20 World Cup is still two years away and if those familiar with the developments are to be believed, there will be a whole new squad with Hardik Pandya selected to lead the team for the long term.
“The BCCI is not asking anyone to retire. It is an individual decision. But yes, with only a few T20Is scheduled for 2023, most seniors will focus on ODI matches and Test matches in that cycle,” a BCCI source told PTI on conditions of anonymity.
“You don’t need to announce retirement if you don’t want to. You won’t see most seniors playing T20 next year,” the source added.
However, Dravid said it was too early to talk about a transfer when PTI asked him about the future of top players like Kohli and Rohit.
“It’s too early to talk about that now right after the semi-final match. These guys have been great performers for us. Like I said, we have a few years to think about that,” said Dravid.
While some players have been contemporary greats in the game, Dravid doesn’t want anyone to write them off in a hurry.
“There are some really good players here, so it’s not the time to talk about these things or think about these things at the moment.
“We’ll have enough matches, enough matches as we go forward, and India He will try to build and prepare for the next World Cup.”
It is understood that over the next year, the T20I team will take a back seat as India play at least 25 international matches, as they will take part in the next Over-50 World Cup on home soil.
A look at India’s FTP calendar shows that until the Over-50 World Cup, the team will only play 12 T20I in twos events (at home and away), starting with three matches in New Zealand next week.
With the inclusion of Shubman Gill at the side and Rishabh Pant (the vice captain of the tour) also having a strong opener, the powerplay batting rules may change.
Not to forget the brilliant talent Prithvi Shaw, who has been repeatedly overlooked in Dravid’s stint as a coach.
Rohit and Kohli are huge names and BCCI will likely leave it up to them to decide on charting the course for the next stage of their careers.
Rohit is now 35 and in two years at the age of 37, he is not expected to lead the T20I team in a world meet.
In the case of Karthik’s role as a particular finisher, it was a short-term arrangement considering the T20 World Cup.
As far as Ashwin was concerned, there was no dangerous perception in the minds of opponent players during the entire tournament. Three of his six wicket points in his six matches came in the Zimbabwe game and his economy average of 8.15 is nothing to write home about.
Washington Sundar, who cemented his place before a slew of injuries, will now have a longer rope.
The only cheat call would be on KL Rahul, whose shooting average was 120.75 a reflection of all that was wrong with the Indian team.
He is the only opening player among the top teams, to have played the first two matches and failed to reach a double digit against any major team (4 vs Pakistan, 9 vs SA, 9 vs England) in the big matches.
Rahul has failed to change his playing style despite much criticism, and his lack of performance has been so blatant that it will be hard to ignore when the determiners meet to pick a team for the T20 series against Sri Lanka.
Upton’s contract expires
Mental conditioning coach Paddy Upton’s contract with the Indian team has expired with the end of India’s T20 World Cup campaign.
Upton’s second stint with the Indian team did not produce the desired results, as the team came in the form of a harvest in both the Asian Cup and the T20 World Cup.
