Mariah Carey, known for her famous Christmas songs, has revealed the real reason why this holiday is so special to her.
In an interview with W MagazineMariah Carey has opened up about why she’s always so big at Christmas, especially for her kids.
“Baby, look, I know a lot of the time people say, ‘Oh, cool! Look at her! She’s, like, very festive and the birthday girl, “or whatever,” the singer, 52, began.
“But, really, Christmas makes me happy. People think I’ve had this princess-style life or something, some kind of fantasy existence where I just show up, like, ‘Here I am! ‘ And that’s not what it is.”
“When you grow up with a messy life and then you’re able to make that shift where you can make your life what you want it to be? That’s the joy for me,” All I Want for Christmas is You, the singer, told the outlet.
Elaborating in her 2020 memoir, Carey wrote, Meaning of Mariah CareyOn her violent upbringing, per Page six. In the book, she writes how her “broken” older brother, Morgan Carey, was allegedly so “abusive” that she once called the police for trying to hurt their mother.
according to page six, Mariah also alleged in her memoir that her older sister, Allison Curry, drugged her with full Valium when she was just 12 years old and left her with one of her sister’s friends, who was allegedly packing a gun for a spooky car trip.
“That’s why I want my kids to have everything they can have. I want them to be able to understand that they can be anything they want to be,” the singer said. W Magazine.
When asked what Christmas is like in her home, Carey said, “I create my own Christmas moment.”
And she continued, “I mean, Santa visits us. He comes with his reindeer. I’m not exaggerating – that’s the truth. By the way, before my kids were born, I used to do the same things. That’s the situation with me and Santa and the reindeer.”
On the topic of gift-giving, Mariah shared her children “make a lot of things they give them,” at which point she jokingly recalled that the “tooth fairy” had forgotten to visit the twins the night before.
She added that the Tooth Fairy (Maria herself) is “very generous”, which would allow her twins to buy her some gifts. “I think they have enough saved and accumulated that they can actually buy me something this year, which would be amazing.”
She added, “I love giving them gifts, because the process of opening a lot of gifts is something I couldn’t do as a kid.”
