Mohamadan beat TRAU FC 1-0 at the Kishore Bharati Krerangan Stadium in Kolkata on Sunday 27 November for their second consecutive win.

Midfielder Faslu Rahman’s goal made the difference in the first half for the Black & Whites, who are now starting to find their feet after losing their first two matches of the season. The match was the much-anticipated debut of the season for midfield maestro Muhammedan Nikola Stojanović. The Serb played a key role in the Black and White Brigade’s second-place finish last season.

TRAU, who suffered their first defeat of the season against Sreenidi Deccan last time out, came out with all their guns and created two early chances.

In the 11th minute, full-back Naresh Singh Yandrimbam whipped in an enticing cross from the right, which was tipped inches by youngster Sagulsim Bikash Singh.

TRAU’s first big chance came just two minutes later when Ghanaian striker Nana found Boko Kumrun Tursunov in an acre of space inside the penalty area and the Tajik hit his shot against the post.

Withstanding the visitors’ early pressure, Mohamadan tried to slow things down and build patiently from behind with the help of midfield engines in the form of Stojanović and Davronov.

It took half an hour for the hosts’ first real foray into the TRAU penalty area. Fazlur Rahman broke in from the right, but his cut to Marcus Joseph was intercepted by a red shirt.

Mohammedan’s breakthrough came in the 40th minute with his first shot on goal. Abhishek Ambikar’s cross cross let TRAU keeper Loitongbam Bishorjit Singh out of his goal but failed to collect the set. Then the ball fell directly into the path of Fazlur Rahman outside the penalty area, who fired it the first time to score his second goal in as many matches.

TRAU had a great chance to equalize in the first half as Tursunov unleashed a powerful low shot with his right foot, which Sankar Roy’s powerful hand caught between the sticks.

The enthusiastic fans found their voices in the second half and the thud of drums reverberated around Kishore Bharati Krirangan.

TRAU made another attempt on goal in the 55th minute as a header from Ousmane Ndiaye landed at the feet of Gerson, who sent a half-volley straight to goalkeeper Roy.

The hosts dominated possession for most of the second half, holding back TRAU to try their luck on the counter. One such occasion saw Tursunov pass forward into the penalty area in search of Naresh, but Roy ran out of his own net to scoop it up.

A great chance to double their advantage went to Tsoul Mohamadan in the 70th minute. SK Faiaz winger found Marcus Joseph with a brilliantly cushioned header just outside the six-yard box but the captain missed his effort.

Sankar Roy was called into action again in the 81st minute. TRAU substitute Kanangam Horam curled a low long-range shot that was expertly cleared by Haris El Mohamady.

El Mohamady’s experienced backline managed things well in the closing stages of the competition and saw off any potential TRAU attacks to claim a narrow 1-0 victory.

Right back Mohamadan Vanlalziwidika Chakchwak was named the hero of the match for his solid defensive performances against the likes of Bikas and Boko.

The result saw Muhammedan, player of Andrei Chernyshov, move up to sixth place in the standings with six points. On the other hand, TRAU dropped to seventh place by four points.
