The recently concluded three ODI series between Australia and England is a huge red flag for the future of ODI cricket. Because the crowds were smaller throughout the series and the final match at the MCG saw only a handful of them meant the huge cauldron had empty seats almost everywhere – a haunting sight if you’re a cricket fan.

Will such a scenario be repeated during the three-match ODI series between India and New Zealand, especially since a number of ‘superstar’ Indian players have returned home?
