The management of the Indian team will have to fix multiple issues before the do-or-die competition. In multiplication, a change in approach is definitely needed. In the bowling unit, India lacked a true sixth choice wicket-taker. In the absence of experienced figures like Jasprit Bumrah and Mohd Shami, the Indian pace attack lacked the firepower to deal with the formidable Kiwi bats. The all-rounder Deepak Hooda is now expected to feature in the upcoming ODI against Kane Williamson’s side.
Batting first, India scored a massive total of 306 in the opening ODI. Kiwi leafs Adam Milne and Tim South made three wickets each. Tom Latham hit an impressive unbeaten 145 to lead New Zealand to a comfortable seven-wicket victory.
The third and final ODI of the series will take place on Wednesday in Christchurch.
