Cricket fans have been sorely disappointed after the opening T20I match between New Zealand and India, scheduled to be played in Wellington, was called off due to incessant rain on Friday. However, former New Zealand cricketer Simon Doll has been exacerbated by some other reasons.

Doll, who is part of the commentary committee for the series, criticized the organizers for the lack of hygiene in the hospitality department at Wellington’s Sky Stadium. The former Kiwi designer also shared a photo of a dirty rag, which he used to clean the seats, in the comment box.

“Another great reason to play here at Sky Stadium. I have just cleaned all the seats in our commentary area so our outside guests can take a seat. What a mess. An embarrassment. Welcome to New Zealand,” Dole wrote on Friday.

The opening T20I match was washed out without even a ball being bowled. Both India New Zealand entered the series after facing a T20 semi-final exit Globalism Glass. India’s campaign in the T20 World Cup came to an end after they were thrashed by eventual champions England. New Zealand, on the other hand, were knocked out of the big event as Pakistan beat them by 7 wickets.

The management of the Indian team decided to rest big names like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul in the white ball series against New Zealand. The all-rounder Hardik Pandya was named India’s captain for the three-match T20I series. With the upcoming T20 World Cup scheduled for 2024, India’s team is expected to groom Pandya for the role of captain in the shortest game format.

The second T20I between India and New Zealand is scheduled to be played at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui on Sunday. The third and final game of the series will be played at McLean Park in Napier on November 22.

The wicketkeeper was also named as the vice-captain of India for the T20I series.
