Group points table e
In the first match of Group E on Wednesday, Japan faced four-time winners Germany. Then Ilkay Gundogan put them ahead in the first half by slotting home a penalty kick. Belgium, ranked second in the world, were lucky to avoid facing Canada thanks to goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois saving an early penalty from Alphonso Davies.
Michy Batshuayi then found the net in the 44th minute with a left-footed shot. Canada edged out Belgium but a first half goal made the difference.
With this victory, Belgium gained four points and finished top of their group, ahead of Croatia and Morocco, who are in second and third place, respectively, by a point each.
