“We lost the first two matches (but) the way we came back in the last four, we did very well,” Babar said in the semi-final press conference.

Babar felt that Pakistan had to give its best, especially with its fast bowling squad to stand up to the challenge of the superior England team that crushed India by 10 wickets in their semi-final victory.

“England is a good team, they have a good group of players and they have fast bowlers and batsmen, so we will do our best to carry out our plans and look forward to the match. Their victory in the finals against India was proof of that. Our strategy is to stick to our plan and use our quick attack as our strength to win the finals.”

The final showdown between England and Pakistan in the MCG is a repeat of the settings in the 1992 ODI World Cup Final played between these two teams at the same venue, which was won by the team led by Imran Khan. With the Pakistan match still one match away from lifting the trophy, Babar admitted he was very stunned by reaching the final of the tournament.

“We couldn’t start well but we came back with a lot of momentum. In the past three or four matches, the Pakistan national team played very well both individually and as a team. We worked hard for it. It feels like a dream come true to reach the final.

“Of course the similarities are the same, but we will try to win the title because it is an honor for me to lead this team, especially in such a big land. We will try to give tomorrow’s game 100 per cent and let’s see.”

Babar also acknowledged the support that Pakistan received from a large number of fans who entered the stadium to cheer them loudly. “When we come to the ground and support our team, they give us confidence, and it is good to see when we go anywhere, to any stadium, when they support the Pakistan team.

“We will try to give our 100 per cent to give them a smile, to win matches, and we are looking forward to tomorrow’s match. They support us with their enthusiasm. I would once again ask them to support us and keep praying.”
