The Grand Leader Cup matches end without result



Lahore: The matches of the ninth round of the Quaid-e-Azam Cup between Al Shamal, Sindh, Central Punjab and Balochistan ended in a draw on Thursday.

The match between South Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at Abbottabad Stadium was ended without a single ball being bowled due to continuous rain. Play was not possible on any of the four days.

At the National Bank Cricket Ground (National Stadium, Karachi), Sindh resumed their first innings off the night’s score of 345 for five (97.2 runs). Veteran activist Sarfaraz Ahmed completed his 13th class first century in the first session of the day. The right-hander scored 102 from 131 balls (11 fours, one six) before falling to spinner Musabsar Khan.

Sarfaraz added 218 runs for the sixth wicket with Omair Bin Yousef. Umair was dismissed for 150 balls off 293 (17 fours).

Bond was bowled for 476 in 144.4 overs. Northern amassed a first innings lead of 129. North captain and left-hander Nouman Ali took five wickets for 130 while Musar finished with three for 65.

Northern then scored 101 for one in 26 overs before the bails were drawn for the last time in the match. Al-Fateh Muhammad Hurairah followed his first innings century with 58 off 66 balls (eight fours). Omar Amin scored 41 goals.

At the LCCA ground, Balochistan resumed their first innings at 219 for four. They lost their last six wickets to add 99 runs to concede 31 runs to Central Punjab. Hussein Talaat fought hard on the fourth day with an unbeaten 76 off 103 balls (eight fours, four sixes). Left-arm bowler Zafar Johar finished the innings with figures of 33-8-94-5. Bilal Asif took three points.

Central Punjab batsmen Abdullah Shafiq and Mohammad Saad scored unbeaten half-centuries as the match ended in a draw. Abdullah, the current season’s top scorer, scored 55 off 126 balls (eight fours) while Saad contributed 57 off 143 (five fours and six).
