Joss Butler’s England national team on Sunday wrote a new chapter in the history of cricket by winning their second T20 World Cup title. The Three Lions defeated Pakistan by 5 wickets to become the only team to win two world titles in T20 after the West Indies. Also, the English team now holds the 50th World Cup and T20 World Cup simultaneously and the first country ever to achieve this remarkable feat.
England outperformed Pakistan across the administrations in its overall performance. The pressure was always on Babar Azam & Co. because their beating never really thrived against the mighty English bowling offensive led by Sam Curran and brilliantly supported by the likes of Adil Rashid and Chris Jordan. Butler’s shooters were so effective that the Pakistani hitters could only muster 8 strokes and a couple of sixes. Shan Masood scored the highest with 28 balls 38 as Pakistan recorded a drop of 137/8 in their 20 ball stakes.
In response, Ben Stokes unleashed the match winner himself and made it an unforgettable game with an unbeaten 52 out of 49 deliveries. England chased the goal with six balls to avoid it.
Their eyes were completely focused on the Pakistan vs England match and once it was over, social media was filled with congratulatory posts for the new world champions. Virat Kohli, top scorer of the 2022 T20 World Cup, congratulated England on their impressive victory.
