Washington Sundar has emerged as a true all-rounder and filled in for Ravindra Jadeja, who is recovering from a knee injury. Washington scored an invaluable half-century and saved India in the third ODI when the chips were out. However, it was his post-match interview with former India player Murali Kartik that went viral on social media. While talking to Kartik, Washington had an amusing cerebral fade-out moment and forgot where he was playing.

Washington has some experience playing in cold and wet conditions. The Sunrisers Hyderabad cricketer played county cricket for Manchester’s Lancashire. Washington was talking about the same thing when he forgot where he was.

“Sure, it was very cool for Lancashire to play in Manchester. Very similar to… Ummm… very similar to (looking puzzled from behind)… Where are we?” Washington said. When Washington was informed that he was in Christchurch, he said, “Yes, it helped me prepare for such cold conditions today.”

India’s fighters couldn’t really pull off the tough conditions in Christchurch on Wednesday. The likes of Captain Shekhar Dhawan, Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant could not convert the starts they were given.

India’s team was in trouble when Washington Sundar came in to bat. However, the 23-year-old showed tremendous mental fortitude and focused on the crease. Washington’s strike comes 51 off 64 balls after his sharp appearance in his international debut. He had scored a quick knock of 37 off just 16 balls to take India to 306 in that match. Washington was also included in the squad that will tour Bangladesh in December for a three-match ODI series.

The 23-year-old will compete with Shahbaz Ahmed and Aksar Patel for a place in the playing eleven in that series. However, Washington’s recent batting performance may give him an extra advantage.
