Defending champions Gokulam Kerala on Friday will head to the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Mizoram to face League One side Aizawl. Gokulam will be looking for his next win after winning the title against Mohamadan in the opening match of the tournament. Their opponents will be from the Northeast in pursuit of their first win of the season after a draw against TRAU FC.

Gokulam began their title defense in style, edging the Kolkata-based club in an intense match 1-0. Their prolific striker August Junior Bomsomlaga scored the first goal for the champions in the 57th minute of the opening game. A thunderous strike from Malabarian of Cameroon helped secure the three points. With coach Richard Tua, Gokulam will compete to win I-League titles this season.
Meanwhile, it wasn’t a perfect start to Aizawl FC’s campaign as they were held to a 1-1 draw by their north-eastern neighbors TRAU FC. After trailing by a goal in the first half, Aizawl quickly came out of the penalty area as K Lalinvilla’s shot equalized in the 48th minute. Mizoram pressed hard in the second half but were unable to score the decisive goal and had to settle for a point.
Gokulam looks slightly favored heading into the match but with the crowd behind them, Aizawl may pack a punch or two on Friday.
