Williamson says in Latham’s 145 not out one of the most special ODIs I’ve seen
New Zealand captain Kane Williamson expressed that he was in absolute awe of seeing wicket-keeper Tom Latham dominate India’s inexperienced bowling attack with a career best score of 145 not out, describing the innings as “one of the most special ODI hits he’s ever seen.”
Chasing 307 at Eden Park, New Zealand were in trouble at 88/3 in 19.5 overs. But Latham, a left-handed batsman, took the match away for India, as he carried an inexperienced bowling attack all over the park to end up unbeaten making a best recorded score of 145 from 104 balls, with 19 from fours and five sixes.

But it was his 25-run attack on Sharadul Thakur in the forty, six and four bounds hit, all but reaching the three-figure mark, that turned the match firmly in New Zealand’s favour.

Latham also stitched together an unbeaten 221-run encounter off 165 balls with captain Williamson, who was the perfect ally and not out at 94 to chase the total with seven wickets and 17 balls remaining.
“It was more of a one or two where he clicked a switch. We got that many over (over forty) and he just kept going. There were moments where we pushed them. It’s nice to make a contribution and with Tommy heading the way he’s been, it’s been about integration. “It’s very special to be on the other end and to see him,” Williamson added.
With the ball, Tim South and Lucky Ferguson took three wickets each while Adam Milne had scalps to his name India He made an awesome 306/7 in the first innings. “At the halfway point it was the total competition. The wickets started to spin a little bit. And the seamers got a little bit out of it. But if you build partnerships here at Eden Park you can chase anything.”

“On these drop pitches you bowl full and straight, and it can be tough. You are always in the game with dimensions. Spin played a big part today. It was a very good wicket. The seamers have done an excellent job,” said Williamson.
