Prime Minister Narendra Modi The three-day Invest Karnataka 2022 Summit opened in Bengaluru on Wednesday and underlined the growth potential of the drone industry. “We have encouraged investments in various sectors that were previously closed to private investments such as defense, drones, aerospace and geospatial mapping,” Modi said via video conference.
According to an EY-FICCI report, the drones and components industry, in particular, is expected to significantly boost India’s manufacturing potential to around $23 billion by 2030.
As Prime Minister Modi said, the government has been trying to help the sector thrive as the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for drones and drone components was notified on September 30, 2021.
The growth in the drone segment can be seen by the Tamil Nadu based drone manufacturer.
Garuda Aerospace, also a PLI recipient, recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and partnered with other companies such as Israel’s Elbit Systems, as well as Lockheed Martin Canada CDL Systems, to develop UAV technology in India.
The recent MoU between Garuda and IISc highlights the collaborative services they will provide using UAVs and UAVs in multipurpose operations.
According to the company, the Department of Aerospace Engineering (DoAE) will assist them in future operations, by signing a two-year Memorandum of Understanding.
The organizations formed a tripartite agreement to formalize the work and seek optimal services for the benefit of the three parties.
Building on recent developments in drone and drone surveillance applications and a large number of potential applications emerging for the benefit of government and community geo-fieldwork surveys.
It has been stated that Garuda, DoAE and IISc may pursue collaborative operational and research projects in all of these areas.
In addition, Garuda will also focus on providing aerial photography, agricultural drones, and related field services.
Agneshwar Jayaprakash, founder and CEO of Garuda Aerospace, said: “We have already boosted the agricultural sector by providing Kisan drones. We aim to make farmers of India Atmanirbar under the vision of our Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji.”
Speaking about the latest MoU with IISc, Jayaprakash said the association is a step towards realizing Garuda’s potential in providing advances in digital input processing mobilization tools including image yield estimation, crop diagnostics, monitoring, as well as field and land mapping using Recently launched drones, which will be used for surveillance.
Meanwhile, Dr. S.N. Omkar, Senior Researcher in Control and Extension at IISc, said: “The partnership will facilitate the collaborative development of new technology related to drone surveillance applications that will benefit farmers, government and the state as a whole.”
“IISc will provide a centralized cloud platform for data storage,” he added.
