Cam and crank sensors wiring and location
CMP (cam position) sensor :
This sensor senses the angular position of the camshaft. and provides data as input to the ECM. This data keeps track of the status of the valves. what state the valves are in. With the help of this data, the fuel injection timing and ignition system are controlled.
CKP (crank position) sensor :
This sensor also works like a camshaft position sensor. which measures the rotary motion of the crankshaft in degrees. Which shows the position of all the pistons, which piston is at (TDC) and which piston is at (BDC). The time period of fuel injection is controlled with the help of this sensor information.
Types of cam and crank potion sensor :
There are three types of crankshaft or camshaft position sensors:
- Optical type
- Inductive type
- Hall effect type
Wiring diagram of cam and crank sensor :
Location of cam and crank sensor :
Cam (CMP) Sensor Location :
This sensor is attached to the camshaft in the cylinder head. Its wiring side is on the outside and magnetic side is on the inside. you can see its location in image.
Crank (CKP) Sensor Location :
This sensor is attached to the crankshaft at the bottom of the cylinder block. Its connection is also similar to the camshaft sensor. you can see its location in image.
