OnePlus Nord now has a wide range of products on the market, and the company is serving its purpose in terms of affordability with the range. We’ve already talked about Nord phones, and even its first smartwatch, now it’s time to check out the Nord Buds CE, which are extremely affordable true wireless stereo earphones from the brand.

At Rs 2,299, the Nord Buds CE competes in a crowded space with the promise of a reliable brand that delivers quality products. But as we’ve seen before, being affordable doesn’t guarantee you’ll get the right quality. OnePlus seems intent on making that right with the Nord Buds CE and we’ve used it extensively to see if the company will be able to follow through on the conversation.

OnePlus Nord Buds CE review: What’s so cool?

The build quality of the Nord Buds CE is better than we expected for a product in the sub-Rs 2,500 range. Yes, they are made of plastic, but the charging case and earphones are not cheap, and even when you wear them, you will not feel uncomfortable for long hours, thanks to the lightness of the earphones.

The earbuds have a single 13.7mm driver which is probably the largest we’ve come across in this range so far. The quality of the sound produced shows its value. It’s not sound-heavy, which is a refreshing change in this price bracket, and the sound output you get won’t tear your ear canals.

Car chases From snow patrol It starts off quietly but the mid-tones get richer as the track progresses. Likewise, everyone else with a bit more bass doesn’t get the thumping heavy, and for a change, we liked that about the Nord Buds CE.

The mid-range is probably where the Nord Buds CE shine. The AirPods-like design has been done to death in this part, but the Nord CE falls in line with what most brands offer and we’re more or less okay with that. The design has its critics but you can’t expect this much less money.

Connectivity is another strong point about these earbuds. You can pair it with your Android or iOS device which makes it dynamic and the quality varies depending on which phone you’re using. Getting a OnePlus phone adds other benefits, with some Buds-exclusive features tweaked. These earbuds get an IPX4 rating which means they can handle a little bit of rain.

OnePlus claims the Nord Buds CE can last more than 4 hours on a single charge, and during our time we had over 4 hours with the earbuds on. Most people will be happy with a total charge supporting around 20 hours of listening time, and the fast charging support offered is always handy for quick power in times of need.

OnePlus Nord Buds CE review: What doesn’t sound great?

The AirPods-like design of the buds means they have a long stem and the buds sit on the outside of the ears. This is where some of you may feel uncomfortable using the Nord Buds CE outside, or even for a run, for fear that they might fall out. Headphones are unlikely to be perfect for all ear sizes, so make sure they fit before you buy them.

The grip on the ears is not very tight. With this design, you also lose out on decent noise isolation with no form of noise cancellation which can be a deal breaker for many of you. You also notice that the earbuds deliver a varied sound based on how well they fit your ears. Additionally, the microphone quality on the earbuds is average and there were instances where the person on the other side of the call couldn’t hear us clearly.

While the overall sound quality is good, the Nord Buds CE don’t perform well in the higher range, which becomes apparent the moment you turn up the volume or get higher in the scale. The touch controls on the earbuds are not very intuitive and take some getting used to.

OnePlus Nord Buds CE review: Should you buy?

Did OnePlus introduce a quality, affordable pair of earphones with Nord Buds CE? Well, to some extent yes. The design still has its fans, but the fit can be subjective and this results in a premium audio experience for the listener. Speaking of which, the overall sound quality is decent and most of you will like the mid-focus approach, which is a far cry from the bass-heavy units out there.

It does not offer noise cancellation and the AirPods-like design leaves them loose in the ears. But with above-average battery life, the Nord Buds CE fit most people’s needs and budget. And for that price, these earbuds sound better than most others we’ve tested lately.
