Australia veteran David Warner has warned fast bowler Cameron Green about the hectic schedule he will face in 2023, which also includes participation in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Green’s intention to participate in IPL 2023 could see ten franchises in a bidding war at next month’s mini-auction in Kochi. This comes after Green smashed two impressive half-centuries on the T20I tour of Australia India in September, with a whopping strike rate of 214.54.

Before the 2023 IPL season comes into the picture, Green will play in Australia’s home tests against West Indies and South Africa. He could also feature for his BBL team Perth Scorchers, before traveling to India with Australia for four Tests next year, followed by three ODIs.
After the conclusion of the IPL, Australia will go to England in the five-match Ashes series. This could become a six if they reach the final of the World Test Championship. Australia also undertakes a white-ball tour of South Africa in August before taking part in the men’s ODI World Cup in October in India.
“From an experience point of view, he’s great. From a play point of view, he’s got four Test matches and a few days after that. Nineteen weeks in a row in India, your first trip can also be very tough from a heat, play and recovery standpoint.”
“You’ve been through that, you’ve done the Test series and the IPL live before (in 2017). It’s tough. Then on the back of that you have five Test matches in England. Then I think you have 20 days off before you go to (South) Africa.” Then you go to the World Cup.” Warner was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au in Perth.
Warner has been a regular in the IPL since 2009, except for the 2018 season which he missed due to Cape Town’s ban for ball tampering. He also cited the example of all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, who had to take a mental health break in late 2019 due to a busy cricket schedule.
“Glenn Maxwell did it a couple of years ago, he played all year, and then it was cooked into the season. From a youngster’s point of view, it’s entirely up to him, it’s his decision to make.”
“For his longevity and his career, it’s a big calling for him as a youngster. Whatever decision he’s going to make, we respect him as players. But in the end it’s up to him and CA, I don’t know what those conversations are.”
Warner, who is currently nearing the end of his career as he aims for the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup in the West Indies and USA, feels his main aim is to see Australia win the Test series in India and England next year.
Interestingly, the left-handed batsman is yet to score a Test century in both countries, averaging 26.04 and 24.25 playing Tests in India and England respectively. “Looking ahead, winning in India is key. We have a lot of series there and we haven’t won a lot of Test matches.”
“England is another one – we kept (the Ashes) last (in 2019), but to win there would be nice. We have the Test World Championship which I think if we win every game we could potentially play in. There’s a lot to look forward to.” But we’re doing it game by game as a team.”
