Gary Neville has called on the Glazers to ensure a “more pleasant exit” from Old Trafford if they sell Manchester United by engaging with the club’s supporters about potential new owners.
The US-based Glazers said earlier this week they were ready to sell the club, which could bring down the curtain on a difficult 17 years in charge.
The Glazers have been unpopular with their supporters since the £790m ($934m) takeover in 2005 dumped huge debt burdens on the club.

Frustration with the Americans has only grown in the nine years of poor results on the pitch since Alex Ferguson retired as coach in 2013.
The Red Devils have not won the Premier League title since Ferguson’s last season in 2012/13 and have failed to win a title since 2017.
United currently ranks fifth in the Premier League, 11 points behind leaders Arsenal.
Neville, the former United and England defender, told Sky sports On Sunday: “The Glazers will never have a great exit from Manchester United, but they could have an even more enjoyable one if they do it right.
“Over the next couple of months, I would like to see them interact properly with the fans about who will take over the club.”
Neville, who has spent his entire playing career for nearly 20 years at United, added that the Glazers did not have the money to compete with Europe’s leading clubs.
He said: “I said six months ago that the Glazers would have to sell or part sell. The shares and the money are needed in the club, just for the investment they will have to make in the stadium, training ground and sports venture.”
“They don’t have enough money.”
Analysts estimated United at £5 billion ($6 billion).
British billionaire and United fan Jim Ratcliffe is seen as the favorite to buy the club, while Saudi Sports Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal said the Gulf state would support a private bid.
But Neville warned: “Manchester United cannot afford to let an owner who is basically shouting against what the club stands for or what the club wants.
“So there are pledges in a statement that I think are really important — like fan voice, fan experience, maybe even fan positions on the board.”
