The army crowned a national champion in boxing

KARACHI: Army were crowned champions of the 39th National Men’s Boxing Championship, while Wabda finished second in Quetta late Monday night.

Al-Jaish (160 points) finished in first place, winning nine gold, two silver and one bronze medals. WAPDA finished second with 90 points, taking home three gold, four silver and one bronze medals.

Balochistan (60 points) finished third with one gold, two silver and five bronze medals. Navy (45 points) followed in fourth place with three silver and three bronze medals.

The PAF (35 points) was fifth with one silver and five bronze medals.

Polis (30 points) finished sixth with one silver and four bronze medals. Khyber Pakhtukwa and Sindh shared seventh place with ten points each, winning two bronze medals each.

AJK, Islamabad and Punjab shared the eighth place with one bronze each. In the 46-48kg final, WAPDA’s Jehanzeb Khan pulled off a huge upset when he knocked out Navy international Zohaib Rashid after an affair.

Muhammad Tayeb from Balochistan and Muhammad Faheem from the army took the bronze medal. In the 48-51 kg final, El-Jaish Talha took home the gold medal when he beat Sajid Rasheed from El-Bahraiya. Amir Hamza of the Pakistan Air Force and Omar Al Sindh were awarded the bronze medal.

In the 51-54 kg category, Zakir Hussain of the Army took home the gold medal when he defeated Noor Ali of Balochistan in the final. Somama Rahman of the Pakistan Air Force and Dawood Khan of the Navy each received the Bronze Medal. The 54-57 kg of gold went to Ilyas Hussain of the Army who knocked down Kaleemullah of WAPDA in the final while Shamsullah of Balochistan and Shakil Amin of Punjab took the bronze medal.

The gold was lifted from 57 to 60 kg by Mohamed Ibrahim of El Jaish who beat Mohibullah of WAPDA in the final. Shihab El Din from the Algerian Armed Forces and Abdel Gayoum from the police won the bronze medal.

The 60-63 kg weight of gold went to Naqitullah from Wabda who beat Ibrar Ali from El Jaish in the final. Faisal Hanif from the Navy and Obaid from Balochistan took the bronze. International Gul Zeb won the 63.5-67 kg gold by defeating Rafiullah of Balochistan in the final while Ahmad Faraz Khan of KB and Jawad of Pakistan Air Force took the bronze medal.

Ehsanullah gifted Balochistan’s only gold medal when he defeated Saeed Anwar of the Army in the final while Amir Shah of KP and Shahryar of Police took the bronze. Saif Al Mannan of the army won the gold medal 71-75 kg after defeating Navy Tanveer Ahmed in the final while Kamran of Islamabad and Ayub Khan of the police took the bronze medal.

In the 78-80 kg final, Bilawal Zia of the Army defeated Ismatullah of Police to take the gold medal while Asadullah of WAPDA and Qaisar Ali Qalandar of Navy won the bronze.

The 80-86 kg of gold went to Zeeshan Ali of the Army who defeated the international Nimatullah of WAPDA in the final while Nasir of AJK and Naveedullah of Balochistan took the bronze.

The 86-92 kg gold medal was taken by Army’s Irrfan Khan who crushed Najibullah of WAPDA in the final while Jamal Shah of Balochistan and Mirza Azam of PAF took the bronze.

In the 92kg plus final, Pakistani fighter Sanaullah of WAPDA defeated Mahmood Al Hasan of PAF to win the gold medal while Yasir Jamil of Sindh and Usmanullah of Police took the bronze.

Meanwhile, Sindh won its third National Women’s Boxing Championship by taking home two gold and two silver medals. HEC and Army share the second place by lifting one gold, one silver and one bronze each. Balochistan finished third with one gold and one bronze.

In the 45-48kg final, Um Banin from Balochistan defeated Nida from Sindh to win the gold medal while Seerah Aisha from the Army and Sania Mustafa from Punjab took the bronze.

The 48-50kg gold went to Hemna Mumtaz of HEC who defeated Sana Atif of Punjab in the final while Azwa Khurrum took the bronze.

In the 50-52kg final, Gul Jabin of Sindh took home the gold medal, defeating Rabia Batool of Jaish in the final, while Aqsa Nasir of Punjab snatched the bronze medal.

The gold medal in the 52-54kg category was won by Rimsha Ghaffar who edged out HEC’s Shahzadi Sakhi in the final while Dua Zahra of Punjab won the bronze.

PAF’s Mehreen Baloch won the 54-57kg gold when she defeated Aman of Sindh in the final while Taha Batool of the Army and Sajiha Ismail of HEC took home the bronze.

Sarah Al Sindh took the gold 57-60 by defeating Komal Akhlaq of AJK in the final while Maria Sultana of HEC and Zainab of Balochistan took the bronze.

PAF won the U-18 Girls’ National Boxing Championship with three gold medals. Army finished in second place with two gold medals and Balochistan finished third with three silvers. HEC and Punjab took one silver each.
