Despite being away from the national team for three years, Hales is England’s third highest scorer in the T20 Internationals between 2011 and 2022.
After Bairstow was injured, Hales was called up to the team in the Seven-T20I Series in Pakistan and two T20Is in Australia ahead of the T20 World Cup.
His wealth of experience on Australian soil has positioned him as the team’s top scorer in this World Cup – 211 points with an average of 52.76 and a hitting average of 148.59.
His 52nd and 47th innings were crucial to England’s victories over New Zealand and Sri Lanka, but the icing on the cake was a stunning 86th not against India.
