Japan’s victory did not hurt Spain’s progress and Luis Enrique’s men reached the next round after picking up four points from three games.
On the other hand, Germany beat Costa Rica 4-2 on Friday but the victory was not enough for Hansi Flick’s men to qualify.
Germany were tied on four points with Spain, but due to their lower goal difference, the 2014 World Cup winner was knocked out of the final event this time around.
