Pullman New Delhi Aerocity is hosting the Sri Lankan Food Festival from 18th to 27th November 2022 at Farmer’s Basket. The 10-day festival will be held under the direction of celebrity chef Anura Chandrasiri Lenora from Colombo, Sri Lanka. The specially curated Sri Lankan menu jointly with Chef Anura includes signature dishes such as Nigam Prawn, Trincomali Crab Curry, Fish Abul Thiyal and Wattalapam.

I was so excited to visit and try Sri Lankan food, and I’ve tried them all! My meal started with Wataka (pumpkin soup) and it was creamy, light and delicious. From the vegetable section, I tried Bonchi Malluwa (French bean curry), Elawalu Katlet (vegetable slices), Kaha Bath (yellow rice with sulatanas), Kaju Saha Karot Maluwa (cashew and carrot curry) and Paripu Themparadu (yellow lentil curry). I highly recommend the lentil curry, which was light, flavorful, and infused with a light coconut flavour. The french bean curry was also something unique and very tasty. The veggie cutlet was average but the cashew and carrot curry was absolutely amazing. Pol roti with katha sambal (coconut curry with sambal chili sauce) is also something you should definitely try.

From the non-vegetarian section, I first chose Isso dumplings (prawn chunks) and that was delicious. The soft parcels with melt-in-the-mouth prawn filling was a great snack to pair with my meal. Malu Thelvinagiri (fish in white curry vinegar) was a creamy and luscious dish which I really liked.
Another interesting dish is Kottu Roti – Roomali Roti mixed with vegetables/chicken curry and then battered before serving. While the vegetable kottu roti did not live up to my expectations, the chicken kottu roti was absolutely delicious.
Sri Lankan sweets you must try. Don’t miss Bibikkan, Wattalapam (coconut pudding), and Kalu Dodol.

The diverse nature of Sri Lankan dishes lies in its colonial past and influences from different countries, displaying a strong history and tradition at its core.
