Young Indian stars Kuldip Sen, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ryan Parag have been retained, as well as fast bowler Kuldip Yadav, wicket-keeper KC Cariappa and wicket-keeper Dhruv Gurel.

Director of Cricket, Kumar Sangakkara commented on his team’s thinking behind the retention process, while also revealing how difficult it was to make some decisions after the Royals finished as runners-up in the last edition.

He said, “Obviously we had a great season last year but ultimately fell short in the final. The squad we had was exceptional in every department and we are delighted at the prospect of retaining the core group that has contributed so much to the success of this franchise.”

At the same time, as a high performing team, you have to keep evolving and look for team strengthening opportunities in order to stay at the top. Our ambition is to go that extra mile in IPL 2023 and so some decisions have been made that give us more flexibility in the auction to compete with other teams and pick players we feel can add value to this squad.”

“As you can imagine, we are of course disappointed to have to part with some players who were such an important part of last season’s squad, both on and off the field, and we want to take this opportunity to thank them for their tremendous contribution to the Royal Family. We wish them all the best for what’s to come,” We hope to cross paths with them soon.”
