A dominant Rajasthan United team beat Sudiva Delhi 3-1 in the 2022-23 I-League 4th round match at Chhatrasal Stadium in New Delhi on Saturday November 26, 2022.

Martin Chaves put the winners ahead in the first half only to see his own goal disallowed by Tetsuaki Misawa. Brito PM scored a goal during stoppage time before the end of the first half to restore Rajasthan’s lead, with Aidar Mampitaliev adding a third in the final minutes of the match.

Rajasthan United started the game strong and were on top from the start. They won back-to-back corners early in the game, but never created a real threat from set-piece situations. The first quarter turned into a midfield battle. The away player steered Sudeva’s forwards and played them on the counter-attack to leave little room for the hosts to build up their movement.

After a quarter of an hour mark, Rajasthan captain Martin Chavis put his team ahead. Lalliansanga Renthlei received the ball in the top of the box and slotted it in to Joseba Beitia, who crossed into the six-yard box for Chaves to rise through the Sudeva defenders to head home.

The Desert Warriors’ advance lasted only six minutes. A throw in the penalty area by Sudiva Delhi left-back Karthik Panicker found Japanese footballer Misawa, who gave Rajasthan goalkeeper Muhammad Rafeeq Ali Sardar no chance due to his powerful shot in the turn.

Sudeva’a Kosuke Uchida was the key player in the home side as he played his way through Rajasthan’s rather small midfield providing multiple progressive passes for the strikers to chase. On the other hand, Hardik Bhatt vigorously defended Rajasthan to keep the Sudiva attackers at bay.

Just before half-time, Rajasthan United regained the lead. Petya’s blocked shot reached William Polyankhum, crossed it to Britto PM to reach Rajasthan.

The second half started with the Rajasthani youth pressuring the home side directly. However, they were unable to add to their tally with Sudeva FC back in the game. Near the hour mark, Selentang Lutjem was fouled by Bhatt near the penalty area. Lutjem took the free kick after hitting the dead ball into the goal, but the referee called for a foul.

Martin Chaves, who remained an influential force for the visitors, attempted a long keeper in the 81st minute. As his fine effort was dipping into place, it was blocked by Sudiva goalkeeper Kabir Kohli at the expense of a corner.

Five minutes later, Aidar Mambitaliev doubled the Desert Warriors’ lead when Sudiva Kongprailatpam defender Manjit Sharma failed to deflect a Chaves shot inside the six-yard box.

Sudiva Delhi tried to get back into the game but it was Rajasthan United who looked likely to score the fourth goal. Sudiva’s keeper Kohli tried to keep his team in the game after a series of volleys in the dying minutes. With this result, Sudiva Delhi have now lost all four of their matches, while Rajasthan United have seven points on the table with two wins and a draw in their four matches.
