England captain, Jose Butler, shared his experience playing under Rohit Sharma during his early years in the Indian Premier League. Butler made his IPL debut in 2016 with the five-time Indian champion Mumbai, however, after two seasons he joined the Rajasthan Royals and remains a pivotal part of their team. Butler played under Rohit in IPL 2016 and 2017 in IPL and said he was a bit young at the time but emphasized that the current Indian captain was tactically good at that time as well.

Rohit is the most successful captain in Indian Premier League history as he led Mumbai to five titles. The opening match dominated the team India captain of Virat Kohli last year. Under his leadership, India has played dominant cricket this year and has now reached the semi-finals of T20 Globalism Cup where they will face England.

Butler praised Rohit’s leadership and said it instilled faith in the Indian team to play with more freedom.

“They are a great team, Rohit Sharma is a great captain and I think he asked them to play more positively and with more freedom. I was a bit young on my IPL journey but tactically I thought he was very good, making good decisions but not always the clear ones, Butler told the Sunday Times.

He also compared Captain Rohit to his beating and said it makes both of them look effortless.

“He gets that sense of calm when everything around him is going at a million miles an hour. A bit like when it hits, it makes it look so easy.”

Meanwhile, Butler also shared his views on the non-attacker infestation who himself became a victim during IPL 2019 when he was taken out by Ravichandran Ashwin, now a fellow Rajasthan Royals, in the match against the Punjab Kings. Ashwin has always said he will continue to carry out the dismissal despite the spirit of the cricket controversy.

Butler praised Ashwin and said everyone has their own view of attacking penetration as he described Indian Rotor as a deep thinker in the game.

“We all have different opinions about this way of separating. But it’s definitely something he sees as fair game. So we have to make sure we don’t come out like that and it’s the hitters’ responsibility. It can’t happen if we’re in a tuck. He’s obviously a great player, skilled. Truly curious, a fierce competitor and a deep thinker in the game.”
