With T20 ICC Globalism Just around the corner, Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur seems to be just focused on her team’s game and not too concerned about what the opposition has to offer. News18 caught up with her for an exclusive chat in Kolkata, where the cricketer has been a model on the Blenders Pride Glassware fashion tour. During our chat, the all-rounder opened up about her captaincy and also shared how the upcoming IPL Women’s Championship will be beneficial for local players.

Excerpts from the interview:

What did your captain teach you?

As a cricketer I have always learned one thing, that is to be responsible, take charge, be comfortable and count on every special moment for you. These things make me strong. For me giving 100% is more important than getting the result and I think these things motivate me.

Where do you see the Indian cricket team going from here with players like Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami?

We definitely miss them as they were such a huge support to all the girls. Today when they are not here, it is our responsibility to continue the hard work. Because of them, we got all the name and fame and their hard work is something you will always remember. The last series in England with Jhulan was special for us because we wanted to give 100% and make it feel special.

How do you think the upcoming IPL will help the women’s cricket team?

The women’s IPL is something to look forward to. It will be a good experience, especially for local players who are of quality but have not had the chance to play at international level. This is a great platform for them and if they do well they will definitely be selected for the national team. They will also share the dressing room with outside players and when you play with them, your efficiency goes up too. You will definitely learn great things from them.

This is what happened to me when I played WBBL and The Hundred. I learned a lot from them, shared my thoughts, and got ideas from them as well.

We have the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup. How prepared are we and who do you think are the biggest competitors in India?

You always have to keep in mind how the other team will perform on that particular day. Otherwise, keeping these thoughts in your mind can constantly make you suspicious. When we meet, we discuss what we need to do and how we need to do it. We certainly discuss the positives and weaknesses of other teams but we don’t give them much respect. There is obviously respect but giving too much of it will also put you under pressure. So for us it is always important how we are going to play and how we are going to do well on the field.
