Oxygen O2 Sensor :

This sensor detects the oxygen present in the exhaust gases. This determines the type of air-fuel mixture burning in the engine’s cylinder. And to what extent has it been completed?

If the oxygen content in the exhaust gases is high, it indicates that the air-fuel mixture is lean. And if the oxygen content is low, it is rich.

This sensor relays all information to the ECM. This information is used to adjust fuel injection timing and quantity. Which reduces the consumption of fuel and also does not have much effect on environmental pollution.

O2 Sensor Material details :

The oxygen sensor plays a crucial role in monitoring the oxygen levels in various systems, such as automotive engines and environmental monitoring devices. The material used in oxygen sensors is typically a ceramic compound, such as zirconia (ZrO2), which exhibits high oxygen ion conductivity. Zirconia-based sensors operate based on the principle of oxygen concentration cells, where a reference air (ambient air) and exhaust gas are used to generate a voltage proportional to the oxygen content. This voltage is then measured and utilized to determine the air-to-fuel ratio or environmental oxygen levels, enabling efficient combustion and accurate monitoring of air quality.

Oxygen O2 Sensor Location :

This sensor is attached to the exhaust system. And in the vehicle that has the catalytic converter installed, these sensors are installed twice. One is located after the exhaust manifold and the other after the catalytic converter. The one above will be called S1 and the one after the converter will be called S2.

V6 and V8 engines have four oxygen sensors. And the behavior of these sensors will be as follows.

B1 S1B1 S2
B2 S1B2 S2
S1Up stream sensor
S2Down stream sensor
S1Primary sensor
S2Secondary sensor

What is Oxygen O2 sensor by AI :

The Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) oxygen sensor is a crucial component in modern automotive systems. This sensor monitors the oxygen levels in the exhaust gases and provides vital information to the engine control unit (ECU). By analyzing the oxygen content, the EFI system can optimize the air-to-fuel ratio, ensuring efficient combustion and reducing harmful emissions. The EFi oxygen sensor utilizes a sophisticated technology that can accurately detect even the slightest changes in oxygen concentration, allowing for precise adjustments in fuel delivery. With its real-time feedback, the EFi oxygen sensor helps maintain engine performance, improve fuel efficiency, and comply with environmental regulations, contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable driving experience.
